Just in time for the warmer months, Dunkin’ has rolled out a summer menu with some tasty treats, including the Cake Batter Signature Latte that fans have wanted for years. Dunkin’ knew their dedicated customers had been using secret menu hacks for MacGyver Cake Flavored Coffee for a while, and now they won’t have to. The Cake Batter Signature Latte – available hot or iced – is officially on the menu for a limited time.
The drink starts with a cake batter flavored syrup, which tastes like sweet vanilla frosting, and includes espresso and your choice of milk. The iced latte is served over ice and topped with whipped cream, mocha sauce and sprinkles. The hot version is simpler and may not include the toppings, but we’re sure you can request them if you want the full experience.
I grabbed both a hot version and an iced version of the new latte, and both are equally tasty. The warm version is comfortable and soft, but not too much. Mine didn’t come with any of the toppings, that’s how I would prefer it anyway. The flavor of the cake batter really pops, though, without being too sweet like traditional cake batter tends to be.
It was the same with the glossy version, although this one had all the fixings. Like the hot latte, the Signature Cake Batter Iced Latte is creamy and not too sweet. The flavor is subtle and may even change a bit if you try different milks. Dunkin’ offers dairy alternatives like almond milk, oat milk, and coconut milk, and I think those could pair really well with the vanilla flavor of this drink. The almond milk would add a little nuttiness and the coconut milk would definitely make the flavor fuller and richer.
My latte didn’t have mocha sauce on top, but I think that might be better. Because the cake batter flavor is so subtle, I’m afraid the mocha may have overwhelmed it. For me, the sauce doesn’t seem necessary. Glitter, however, is non-negotiable. I always need nuggets in my life, and they feel great in this dessert-inspired drink.
Dunkin’s Cake Batter Signature Latte might actually appeal to a number of people, simply because it’s not too sweet. Drinks that are too sweet can be polarizing, and that’s not an issue here. Although you can add more sweetener if you want, it’s just sweet enough. And don’t worry, you can still taste the coffee well. There’s a pretty good balance between aroma, milk and espresso, and nothing goes to waste.
As with any limited menu item, it will disappear before you know it, so if you’re intrigued by Dunkin’s new drink, I suggest you try it as soon as possible so you don’t miss it.
