Hanoi (VNA) – The moon cake market before the Mid-Autumn Festival this year seems to be more lively after two years of sluggishness due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Popular mooncakes from brands such as Kinh Do, Huu Nghi and Hai Ha have gone on sale in the busiest areas of Hanoi to meet customer shopping demand for the upcoming festival.
Van Dong, salesman at the Kinh Do mooncake stand at Vincom Ba Trieu, said that although the stand opened a month earlier than last year, the number of customers buying mooncakes has more than doubled.
Prices for most mooncakes this year are 10% higher than last year. The companies said the high price of materials was the reason for the rising price of mooncakes.
For Kinh Do products, the price of a moon cake ranges from 50,000 VND (2.14 USD) to 79,000 VND.
A representative of Long Dinh moon cake brand said the price of cakes is expected to increase by about 10%.
The owner of Bao Phuong mooncake bakery in Tay Ho district said the prices of some bakery ingredients such as flour, rice, cooking oil and eggs had risen by 50%. However, Bao Phuong is still trying to stabilize the price. The price of Bao Phuong moon cake ranges from 40,000 to 75,000 VND each.
In addition to traditional stalls, mooncakes have also been offered for sale on e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Tiki and Lazada to attract online customers. Consumers can easily find a wide range of handmade mooncake products here with all shapes and flavors such as mixes, blueberries, tiramisu and cheese./.
