Why are sugar cookies the most fun to bake?
Ask Haley Tushaus, owner of the brand new Lucky One Baking Co. in downtown Menomonee Falls, N88 W16624 Appleton Ave., Suite 2.
Tushaus spent months gutting the place and building a suitably sized kitchen for his business. Then she started cooking. She makes custom cookies and has created cakes and dessert tables for weddings and events, which is part of her business that she hopes to expand. There is no storefront or retail operation for Lucky One Baking, but orders placed with the company can be picked up downtown.
And there’s something about sugar cookies that makes Tushaus love baking them the most.

“You can be super creative with them,” she said. “They’re so customizable and fun for people. You can get them for any type of event.”
Tushaus said she once asked a dump truck company to order dump truck cookies to put in promotional gift boxes. She also made wedding cookies with zodiac signs, some with tarot cards and a space theme for an anniversary.
“It’s really fun trying out different decorating techniques,” she said. “There’s always a reason for cookies.”
The Brookfield native chose to enroll in bakery and pastry management at Waukesha County Technical College because she loved baking. Little did she know that her side business would be so successful that she could make it her full-time job.
She graduated from WCTC in 2019 and said many people enjoyed her cookies and creations while there.
“I feel good about it. I like being my own boss,” she said. “I’m proud of that.”
