On Monday morning, residents of the Upper West Sides will have the chance to eat breakfast and do some good in one stop.
Maman, the French bakery and café, will open on March 21 on Columbus between 66and and 67e, and all proceeds from sales that day will be donated to welcome babyan organization that provides mothers in need with kits of essentials, such as diapers, wipes, a baby carrier, etc.
“Our brand is dedicated to our mothers and grandmothers,” said Elisa Marshall, creative director and co-founder of Maman – which means “mommy” in French – who opened the first cafe with her husband in Soho. in 2014. (“It’s been eight years and we’re still together!”) She mentions that they still use some of their mothers’ recipes in their coffee shops.
Since the start of the pandemic two years ago, Maman has donated profits to Welcome Baby from the first day of each new store. Ms. Marshall estimates they generate between $5,000 and $8,000 for charity each time they open. The opening of Maman in Amsterdam between 80and and 81st raised about $7,000, she said.
“The special thing about this opening is that the packages will be sent to families in Ukraine and to refugees in Poland,” Ms Marshall said. They will have a staff event to assemble the boxes that will be shipped.

Ms Marshall said she was ‘pleasantly surprised’ at the success of the 1980s Mum location, which opened last october. the menu, which changes seasonally, will be the same at both locations. Highlights of the new spring menu include: Raspberry Marble Cake with Elderflower Cream Cheese Frosting, Strawberry Almond Croissant, and new drinks like Butterfly Pea Blossom Latte. They will also have Oprah’s favorite chocolate chip and nut cookies.
Speaking about the proximity of the two UWS locations, Ms. Marshall said there was ample space for both because the 80s has more residential density while the 60s has more commercial density. She noted that the new location is across from ABC Studios.

Maman will be open on weekdays for counter service from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. On weekends, it will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will offer brunch service. They also offer catering services and evening events – Ms Marshall said they were a popular spot for baby showers. From floral arrangements to patterns on cups and plates, Maman tries to create a “multi-sensory experience [that’s] more experiential meals than the average cafe,” she said.
Ms. Marshall encourages customers to download the mom app for a $5 credit. Mom doesn’t take reservations but you can pre-order through the app.
