The family business expands across borders, inspiring his daughter to add her own touch

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Seeking more in the pandemic, a woman was inspired to launch her family’s business across borders.
Marcela Figueroa, 27, is the owner of Love Treats McAllen, an at-home pet micro-bakery.
Originally launched in Matamoros as a family business, Figueroa has opened its own Love Treats with an added twist.
During the pandemic, Figueroa found herself seeking new passions as she searched for a new job.
Figueroa had studied biology and was working in a clinic when she decided to start a new journey. While discussing the idea with her mother-in-law, she was encouraged to start her own dog treat business here in the Rio Grande Valley.
My mother-in-law actually brought up the idea…she said that with my creativity, I could do a lot. I said why not, I tried and had so much fun! I never would have imagined it [Love treats McAllen] grow so big.

Before entering the kitchen, Figueroa learned all the nutritional aspects of making dog treats and cakes from her mother-in-law, Claudia Vento.
As the founder of Love Treat, Vento taught her daughter-in-law everything she had learned in months of canine nutrition classes.
I learned so much about dog nutrition to make cakes safe for dogs. Customers always ask me if they can eat my produce, and they can, but you might start wagging your tail.

Figueroa is constantly on the lookout for new cake designs and welcomes creative requests from furry parents.
Adding his own twist to the family business, Figueroa has added his talents to other pet-focused products.
The business owner also does pet portraits, she previously focused on Christmas decorations with dog portraits.
Currently a full-time job, Figueroa discussed his plans for the future of the business.
I really like what I do. I love talking with clients and watching them groom their dogs. They are like a family. I don’t know where my own business will go, but there may be a Love Treats shop/cafe.
