Oh, did you bake me a cake?
That’s good… but I think I’ll do my own.
Ouch! It’s a bit harsh, don’t you think?
And that brings us to today’s story!
Read on and see if you think this guy acted like an asshole to his wife on her birthday.
“For my birthday (32M), I always like a specific type of cake, a chocolate covered cherry cake. My mom or dad always made it for me because it wasn’t one of the flavors available in bakeries or stores near where we grew up.
When I moved, I started doing it myself. I’ve been married to my wife for just under a year but we’ve been together for 6 years so she knows all about this cake. During that time, either we cooked it together, or my parents made it, or I made it myself. I never asked her or expected her to.
Before my birthday this year, my wife asked me what kind of cake I wanted. Always the same kind but she told me she didn’t feel like cooking. I told her she didn’t need to worry about cooking because I can do it myself. She asked me a second time and I gave her the same answer.
The day before my birthday, I come home from work and I have all the ingredients to make my cake. Go get something from the fridge and there’s a pair of cheesecakes with “Happy Birthday” written between them. I asked my wife about it and she said it was the cakes for my party the next day and she thought of changing things up this year since “everyone loves cheesecake”.
I don’t like her, but she gets cheesecakes at least once a month. I never ate cherry cake except on my birthday. I told him I liked it and they looked good, but I really want the cake I like, so I was going to make my own and we’ll let everyone choose the cake they want.
She got upset and yelled that I had ruined her attempt to make it easy for us by not having to cook and bringing a cake that everyone would love. It’s been two days since the party and she was cold at the party and still acts cold. Usually I move mountains and skies to give her the things she wants for her birthdays and celebrate however she wants, I just wanted a specific cake for mine.
Now let’s see what Reddit users had to say.
A reader said he was NTA and was quite confused by this situation.
Another person brought up a good point: parties are never ruined by too much cake!
And this reader said he was NTA and his wife didn’t do this to make it easy for both of them…
