In summer, it is very easy to fall back on ice cream and popsicles for dessert. And there’s nothing wrong with that, but for special occasions we like to do something a little more extravagant. That being said, we don’t always have a lot of time to spend on a complicated recipe, so we’re always on the lookout for delicious time-saving shortcuts. Giada De Laurentiis excels in this kind of recipe, and when we saw her last summer dessert, we knew it would be the perfect recipe for Father’s Day.
De Laurentiis shared a sabayon pound cake with limoncello recipe for Giada in Italy, just in time for Father’s Day, and if you’re planning on being busy hanging out with your fizzy drinks all day, you’ll love that it calls for a store-bought pound cake. You won’t need to turn on the oven or bake to create the base for this recipe.

Sure, a basic store-bought pound cake
doesn’t seem so special from a dessert, so De Laurentiis adds some Italian twists. First, she makes a berry filling by macerating a combination of your favorite summer berries with limoncello, lemon juice and sugar. While she sits, she concocts the star of the dish: the limoncello sabayon.

Sabayon is a custard sauce often served with desserts. You will need a double boiler (we love this one,
that can fit on a pan you already have) and an electric mixer to make it, but if you don’t include the time it takes to cool, making the sauce only takes about 15 minutes of on-time.

De Laurentiis infuses its custard sauce with limoncello. Between the lemony flavor of the berries and the tang of the limoncello in the sabayon, no dad will call this dessert boring.
