A crowd full of college kids screamed for ice cream on Saturday. The 11am ribbon cutting and official opening of Cups N’ Cones at the old Rosie’s in Old Greenwich drew over 100 people who eagerly awaited the store’s doors to open.
It had been months since Rosie had closed and four years since Darlene’s ice cream and chocolate shop had closed. The cravings had accumulated.
The moment the doors opened, throngs of kids rushed to the familiar self-serve stations and onto the counter to add everything from Nutella to mini marshmallows, and caramel turtles to peanut butter cups. .
“When Old Greenwich hasn’t opened its frozen yogurt or ice cream shop for over a month, people don’t know what to do with themselves,” said Alex Buzik. “There are other options in Greenwich, but on Sound Beach Ave the kids were always walking by and asking when we were going to reopen.”
“We have been overwhelmed with the love and support from our community,” Alex’s wife Anna Buzik said after the event. “The grand opening was highly anticipated and I hope we weren’t disappointed.”
Anna said that while the ice cream was a huge hit, she was happy to offer so much more than just ice cream and frozen yogurt.

Anna and her husband Alex undertook a major renovation in January.
“Anna designed the entire store,” Alex said. “We repainted, and there is a new mural. We rebuilt the entire front of the house and added all new amenities.
First coach Fred Camillo, who grew up in the city, said: “It seemed like every neighborhood had an ice cream shop. To see one open here at Old Greenwich, especially following a two-year pandemic, is wonderful to see.
“In my many years of public service, I have attended many ribbon cuttings and inaugurations,” Camillo added. “The Cups n’ Cones event was one of the record highs as the number of people lining up to get in, and the joy and happiness all around was welcome.”
“My husband and I grew up hanging out with our friends at Friendly’s,” coach Janet Stone McGuigan said. “It’s nice to see so many children here. There must be more places where our young people can meet.
The Cups N’ Cones menu features familiar flavors of frozen yogurt, including Cake Batter, Cookies n’ Cream, Cappuccino, Irish Mint and Pistachio.
In addition to vanilla and chocolate soft serve ice cream, there are a dozen flavors of scoop ice cream, including mint chocolate chip, cookie dough, cotton candy and buttercream of pecan.
Cups N’ Cones also offers milkshakes in all flavors, Belgian waffles for a snack or dessert, and a variety of beverages including coffee, hot chocolate, iced tea, lemonade, lemonade strawberry and lemonade.
Customers can take home pints and pints of their favorite flavors. All ice cream and frozen yogurts are kosher and most are gluten-free.
