Queen: royal portraits created using varieties of cakes
Britain’s favorite cake has been revealed – like the humble cheesecake.
A study of 2,000 Britons also found lemon, carrot and chocolate fudge cakes to be among the top 40 most popular cakes.
But surprisingly, cheesecake topped the poll with 37% of the vote – beating out some British classics including coffee and nut cake and fruitcake.
The chocolate cake took second place, ahead of the classic Victoria Sponge.
Other varieties of pastries to make on the list were Christmas Cake and Battenburg, as well as Fondant Fantasies, Madeira Bread, Spotted Bite, Apple Cake and Flapjack.
The research was commissioned by Dr Oetker Baking, who recreated iconic images of the Queen from each decade of her 70-year reign entirely from cakes, using cake ingredients and decorations.

Each cake portrait was made from a different style of cake that was fashionable at the time pictured.
The portraits were displayed in a pop-up gallery, Cakes of the Crown, today [May 26, 2022] at Royal Windsor.
Prudence Staithe, the food artist behind the masterpieces, said: “Pastry gives you a world of opportunity to get creative and best of all it’s a lot of fun, especially when it’s it’s all about decorating and designing your trim.
“The Queen is an icon, and the eight pastries that have been displayed show just how interesting her reign has been – as well as how far the nation’s taste for cakes has grown.”
The study also found that a third of Britons cooked at home at least once a month.
And nearly four in ten plan to cook for the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend, opting to whip up a classic Victoria sponge in honor of the Queen.
And, in line with the Cake Art Expo’s Baking Trends Display, 16% are planning a vegan chocolate, zucchini and zucchini cake.
The research, conducted via OnePoll, also found that the average adult will consume 72 servings of cake each year.
Special occasions (46%), including birthdays, Christmas and weddings, emerged as the most popular popular time for festive home baking and indulging.

But 41% of them will indulge in a delicious slice of pastry simply because they crave something sweet.
While 39% enjoy eating cakes because of the variety of flavors.
In keeping with British fashion, 42% of respondents think an English breakfast tea is the best drink to serve with your favorite home-cooked meal, followed by coffee (38%) and hot chocolate (18%).
Jen Brown, Head of Cake at Dr. Oetker, added, “Baking is great fun and you don’t have to be an expert to be creative in the kitchen.
“Something like a Victoria sponge or Jubilee themed cupcakes are a great place to start – both are simple but effective and offer a wonderful way to pay tribute to the Queen.
“These are also ideal pastries to make with friends or family, or simply as an activity to enjoy alone as a little ‘me time’.
“We loved recreating Her Majesty as cake art for our Cakes of the Crown gallery, and we were delighted that so many visitors and residents of Windsor were able to join us and taste the delicious flavors of the reign of the Queen.”
