LANSING, Mich. (WILX) — It just got a little softer around Mid-Michigan on Friday thanks to the grand opening of Nothing Bundt Cakes near the Meridian Mall.
Co-owner Wendy Kinney is a graduate of Michigan State University and wants to say “thank you” to a community that has done so much for her.
“We want to spread the joy, that’s really what we want to do. We want to bring gifts back to people,” Kelly Yurgo, co-owner of Nothing Bundt Cakes told Okemos.
Kelly Yurgo is Wendy Kinney’s sister-in-law. She said Kinney is the reason they even know what those cakes look like, and the rest is history.
“Because my sister-in-law lived here and her playground is here, she knew it would be a great market for our cakes,” Yurgo said.
Kinney is a Spartan, so choosing a location near campus was an easy decision — and it didn’t take Kinney long to convince her co-owners that Okemos was the perfect place.
“It’s a big demographic. It’s a great region. It’s beautiful here,” Yurgo said.
And Yurgo said it’s also a great opportunity for the team to get involved in celebrations like birthdays, weddings and college events. She said she noticed people light up when offered a cake, especially a Nothing Bundt cake. Yurgo said that was their goal: to make people happy and spread joy.
The community also seems excited for the cakes. Amy Dawson owns Capellini Salon in Meridian Township. She said she stopped and ended up buying four different flavors.
“I’m here to support the locals and I’ve heard so many wonderful things about these cakes and just wanted to try them,” Dawson said.
As a first way to say “thank you”, Nothing Bundt Cakes will be hosting a back-to-school party in September with special guest, Sparty. The owners said they will also be raising awareness about mental illness throughout September.
