WDAS icon Patty Jackson announced Grammy winner Chrisette Michele, who sang during the couple’s first dance.
Music and entertainment are always important when it comes to your big day. Some couples prefer a live band, some a DJ, some a bit of everything – here in Philadelphia, there are endless choices to set the tone for your wedding. And this Philadelphia duo definitely upped the star power at their The Lucy by Cescaphe wedding, with performances from local and national celebrities. Photograph by Tyler Boye captured all the defining moments.
This was love at the first “game” for the lawyer Addie Brice and real estate investor Darnell Russellwho went online in 2018.
A phone conversation that lasted until the early hours of the morning led to a successful first date at the Devon Seafood Grill in Rittenhouse. Darnell admired the smile, the beauty, the career, the personality and the love for his family and friends. Addie, impressed by Darnell’s ambition and drive, knew she was under a spell when he came to her mind in the courtroom.
What followed was a three-year relationship that culminated in a proposal in Jamaica on New Years Day 2021. Just over a year later, Addie and Darnell got married at Lucy by Cescaphe, a venue modern and glamorous downtown.
During the ceremony, white roses and blush rosettes accented the wall of greenery, and petals strewn down the aisle enhanced the romantic aesthetic.
At the reception, the couple’s 160 guests were treated to glasses of champagne before heading to their tables.
They then dined at flowery tables over a dinner of seared filet mignon, grilled Atlantic salmon and roast rack of lamb.
Meanwhile, a runner of lush greenery with roses draped elegantly around the couple’s darling table.
One of the many other special details of their ‘Get Ready for Russell’ themed day was an ice sculpture of Lady Justice wearing a helmet and holding a hammer in her right hand – an emblem linking the careers of the bride and groom . And, because Darnell is a boxing fan, he wanted an in-ring introduction when the wedding party walked into the reception. (Gloves were used as props.)
But where the Old City pair have really come into their own is their music and entertainment – thanks, in part, to Darnell’s previous work promoting and producing parties in the early 2000s.
Grammy-nominated musician Major sang “Why I Love You” as Addie walked down the aisle, and Grammy-winning singer Chrisette Michele performed “A Couple of Forevers” as the newlyweds shared their first dance.
The performance was hosted by beloved Philadelphia radio host Patty Jackson of 105.3 WDAS FM.
Other notable appearances include 76ers announcer Matt Cord, who hosted the wedding presentations; musician Carol Riddick, who sang during dinner; and Power 99 DJ Doc B, who kept guests dancing the night away.
