The real deal
Eat Real has expanded its appeal to flavor explorers with the addition of sea salt and balsamic vinegar to its line of hummus chips.
The leading UK free-from brand – a pioneer in the plant-based snacks movement – is striving to accelerate growth with bold flavors and better-for-you credentials. Thus, its new variant is vegan and contains 30% less fat than regular potato chips. It is also free of gluten, colors, flavors and artificial ingredients. It joins other flagship flavors in the range – such as Tomato and Basil, Salted Cream and Sour Cream and Chive – five of which are HFSS compliant, thanks to a reduction in their salt content of more than 50%.
The launch coincides with Eat Real’s rebranding with new packaging designs in its portfolio, which includes lentil chips, quinoa chips and vegetable straws, among others.
“Eat Real has become a pioneer of the best for you through its unusual ingredients layered with bold and unexpected flavors inspired by the combinations you find in your own kitchen,”said marketing director Helen Pomphrey.
“We’ve found that Eat Real flavors are a key driver of consumer purchases as more people opt for delicious yet healthier alternatives.”
The new packs from Eat Real are rolling out across the UK, at Sainsbury’s from September and other retailers including Tesco from October, in take-out bags (45g) for an RRP of 1 £.20 and sharing bags (135g) for £2.00.
Pladis has unveiled its 2022 Christmas ranges from Jacob’s and Carr’s, which include throwback favorites and non-HFSS (high fat, sugar and salt) treats.
Jacob’s has refreshed its range of ever-popular Christmas shopping carts (£2.79), with 50% HFSS compliance. This year Jacob’s Mini Cheddars Original and Treeselets are joined by two lighter options – Mini Cheddars Nibblies Cheddar & Smoked Paprika – which contain 30% less fat. Jacob’s Mini Twiglets also returns with a non-HFSS recipe, which is both 60% less salty and high in fiber.
Jacob’s Festive Selection (300g £3.25; 450g £4.40; 900g £7) builds on its heritage and longstanding baking expertise. Ready for topping, dipping or sandwiching – the selection includes big sellers like the signature Cream Cracker.
Jacob’s Heritage Tin (£6) taps into the conviviality trend with a seasonal selection of crackers to share – including Jacob’s Cream Crackers and Jacob’s Digestives.
Carr’s Melts Warm Chilli (£1.69) is also back, crisp wheat biscuits that embody Carr’s light, melty texture with a gentle heat.
The Carr’s Melts Selection Pack (£5) includes a trio of treats, namely Melts Original, Melts Cheese and Warm Chilli, ideal for the after-dinner cheese board.
Carr’s Selection (200 £3; 400g £4.50) offers a variety of nine savory biscuits and crackers.
“As always, we have been strongly focused on providing quality and choice to shoppers with our 2022 savory Christmas range,” said Cassie French, Marketing Director, Seasonal & Cake.
“We have no doubt that our portfolio of cracker selection boxes – whether family favorites from Jacob’s or our extra specials from Carr’s – will be particularly popular this year. As Britons feast on cheese platters and gather with friends and family in larger groups, produce perfectly placed for sharing will yield strong results.
Jacob’s and Carr’s Christmas products are rolling out various UK grocery retailers – including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons, Amazon and Ocado – as well as discounters.
Schwan’s Company launched the Hearth & Fire line of pizzas: pre-cooked frozen pizzas that feature pizzeria-quality craftsmanship.
Hearth & Fire begins with a dough fermented for at least 20 hours (a process that took three years to perfect) that is flame-fired at 1,000°F (537°C) to add crunch and char to the crust. Each pizza is then finished with a selection of artisan toppings and vacuum-packed to ensure the artisan quality is preserved from freezer to oven to table.
There are four variations in the range: La Margherita (mozz, basil, red sauce and a dash of olive oil); The Pepperoni (pepperoni, mozz, spicy red sauce and a pinch of parmesan); La Bianca (mozz, fontina, cheddar, goat cheese, asiago, creamy garlic parmesan and oregano sauce); and The Mushroom (gouda, portabella mushrooms, caramelized onions, roasted shiitake and cremini mushrooms, goat cheese, asiago and thyme).

Let’s dance the twist again
At SIAL Paris 2022 (October 15-19), Gourmand Pastries is jumping on the vegan trend by twisting and showcasing all-butter croissants that are actually made from a butter/margin mixture.
Vegan is one of the biggest trends of recent years. It’s not new, but what is is that Gourmand Pastries, specialist in frozen pastries for the B2B sector, is joining the movement. Its line of vegan pastries includes croissants, pain au chocolat, praline croissants, and maple pecan braids. The range is made from 100% plant-based ingredients, including certified sustainable palm oil (RSPO).
Going into a twist, but doing it in style, Gourmand Pastries’ Pretzel Triangle uses a variety of pastries to create a treat somewhere between a croissant and a pretzel. A crisp start is followed by a soft texture and slightly salty tones. This new kind of vennoiserie is perfect on its own or in a richly filled sandwich holder.
Finally, the Belgian bakery maker presents Superblend, a clean label butter and margarine combo, which perfectly matches the buttery flavor of a real butter croissant.
